Reverend Kenneth Charles Brenny was born on November 27, 1929, in Holdingford, MN. He was the son of Charles and Agnes (Katzmarek) Brenny. Father Brenny attended Holdingford Public Grade School and High School, St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota, Department of Mortuary Science. He received his seminary training at St. John’s Seminary, Collegeville, MN. Father Brenny was ordained by The Most Reverend Peter W. Bartholome at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Saint Cloud, MN on June 1, 1963. He celebrated his First Mass at Saint Hedwig’s Church, Holdingford, on June 2, 1963.
Father Brenny served in the following pastoral assignments in the Diocese of Saint Cloud: associate pastor, St. Peter’s Church, St. Cloud, June 1963—June 1967; pastor, St. Elizabeth’s Church, Elizabeth, June 1967—July 1987; St. Michael’s Church, Buckman, August 1991—July 1994; St. Joseph’s Church, Pierz, July 1994—July 2000. Father Brenny retired June 29, 2000.
Father Brenny served as Chaplain at the Fergus Falls State Hospital June 1967 until July 1987 and in the United States Navy, July 1987 until August 1991. He also served as Dean of the Fergus Falls Deanery from 1979 until 1987 and Little Falls Deanery from January 2008 until June 2014.
Father Brenny died on May 13, 2015, in a car accident in Morrison County. A Vigil Service will be held on Sunday, May17, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of Saint Michael, Buckman, Minnesota with visitation from 2:00-8:00PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Saint Mary, St. Cloud, Minnesota, on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Donald Kettler presiding with visitation from 8:00-11:00AM at the church. Burial will be at Saint Hedwig’s Cemetery, Holdingford, Minnesota at 2:30PM.
Father Brenny was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Stanley, Clem, Allan, Clarence (Chief), Roy and two sisters, Eleanor Brenny and Connie Lewis. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
