Marilyn J. Sandahl, 85, of Clitherall, MN, died on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Home.
Marilyn Joan was born on October 28, 1931, at her family home in Eagle Lake Township, the daughter of Joseph and Hulda (Runningen) Swenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church, Eagle Lake Township. Marilyn attended District 67 School through the eighth grade and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1950. While in high School she worked at Bonnie Beach Resort on Clitherall Lake and later at Frees Cleaners in Fergus Falls.
On June 3, 1956, she married Orris Alvin Sandahl at Grue Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Steilacoom, Washington while Orris was in the service. After his discharge, they moved to Herman. In 1957, they moved to the Clitherall area. In 1961, they purchased Orris’s family farm in Clitherall, where Marilyn resided until December 2015. Marilyn wrote Nidaros News for the Battle Lake Review and owned Marilyn’s Catering for many years, where she was well known all around the area for her delicious cakes she made for Weddings, Birthdays and pretty much any occasion. For over 50 years her service to the Nidaros Lutheran Church included Sunday School Superintendent, Church Council Secretary, keeping church records, serving several terms as WELCA President and a circle/committee leader. She recently received the Mary Magdalene Award for her many years of service to Nidaros Church where she was a longtime member.
Her hobbies included word puzzles, bird watching and adult coloring books. Marilyn cherished her time with her grandchildren and always had some sort of food or treat to greet her guests.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Hulda; her husband, Orris Sandahl and siblings, Harriett Knapp, John Swenson, Joel Swenson and Shirley Mickelson.
Her family includes four children, Bradley and special friend Elaine Josephson of Clitherall, Wayne (Brenda) of Underwood, Charlene (Greg) Meers and Carol (David) Dumonceaux all of Clitherall; four grandchildren, Curtis (Heather) Sandahl, Caleb Sandahl, and Kimber and Kelly Meers; one great grandchild, Leigha Sandahl; two step grandchildren, Amber Dumonceaux and fiancé Michael Snorek, and Danielle Dumonceaux; three step great grandchildren, Colton Bladow, Connor Bladow and Patrick Snorek; a sister, Lorella Hartman of Dalton, MN along with numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Memorial Gathering: Thursday, April 27, from 5-7pm, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake.
Memorial Service: 2pm, Friday, April 28, 2017, at Nidaros Lutheran Church in Clitherall, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
