Donald L. Stewartt

Donald L. Stewart, 94, of Clitherall, died Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Donald was born on June 13, 1929, in Duluth, MN, to James Franklin Jr. and Pearl (Rasmussen) Stewart. He moved to Clitherall Township as a baby and was confirmed at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, Battle Lake and went to country school through 8th grade. Don Moved to the farm when he was 8 years old and has lived there ever since.

Don married Carol Loomer on May 2, 1959 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, Battle Lake.

Don worked road construction. He served in the US Army 1948-1949, served stateside, and later was honorably discharged to go home to help his father on the farm.  He took over the farm when his dad retired. He raised dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens. When he retired, he started Stewarts Construction doing gravel work and rip rapping for over 20 years.

He was a member of 4-H, NFO, OCTA snowmobile club and served as president, Clitherall Sportsman’s Club, serving as president for 10 years.  Don also served on the Battle Lake School Board for 2 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, weekends at the cabin with family and friends,

Survived by his children, Tom (Shirley) Stewart of Clitherall and Jodi Peterson of Battle Lake; seven grandchildren, Terry Stewart, Shawna Clark, Tasha Bohn, Shane and Kodie Stewart; Jennifer and Nicholas Peterson; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deneice Stewart; former son-in-law, Kurt Peterson and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife Carol in 2019; son, Jerry Stewart; parents, James Franklin Jr. and Pearl Stewart; granddaughter, Stacy Stewart and brothers, James Stewart, Jr. and Harvey (Jean) Stewart.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2023, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, Battle Lake, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
